How to cancel ChatGPT (Plus and Pro)
Cancel on the platform you subscribed through. Cancelling does not refund past charges.
First: cancel wherever you are billed. If Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon or a phone/TV provider bills you, cancelling on the company's own site will not stop the charges.
Steps
- Web: sign in at chatgpt.com, open your account menu, then Settings, then Billing. Under Cancel plan, select Cancel.
- iPhone or iPad (Apple billing): open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select ChatGPT, then Cancel Subscription and confirm.
- Google Play: in the Play Store app go to Subscriptions, select ChatGPT and tap Cancel subscription. You can also do this on the Google Play subscriptions website.
- ChatGPT Business: sign in, select Workspace settings, then Billing, then Manage plan, then Cancel subscription.
Good to know
- OpenAI says cancelling stops future renewals, and paid features stay available through your current billing period.
- OpenAI recommends cancelling at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid being charged for the next period.
- OpenAI has a separate article about avoiding being charged twice if you subscribed on more than one platform.
Refunds and fees
OpenAI says cancelling does not automatically refund previous charges. Request refunds from the platform you bought through: OpenAI Support for web or Google Play purchases, Apple for App Store purchases. Eligibility depends on your purchase and location.
