How to cancel Microsoft 365
Cancel from your Microsoft account. Storage drops sharply afterwards.
First: cancel wherever you are billed. If Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon or a phone/TV provider bills you, cancelling on the company's own site will not stop the charges.
Steps
- Go to account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the account you used to buy it.
- Select Cancel subscription. It may be labelled Upgrade or Cancel.
- Review the details on the cancellation page.
- Choose the option that matches what you want. Microsoft's page words these as I want to keep my benefits or I don't want my subscription.
Good to know
- If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of a cancel option, the subscription is already set to expire and you need to do nothing.
- After cancelling, cloud storage drops to 5 GB (OneDrive and Outlook.com attachments combined) and Outlook.com email storage drops to 15 GB.
- If you are over those limits you cannot upload files or send and receive email, and Microsoft may delete OneDrive content after six months. Back up first.
- Bought through Google Play, the Apple App Store, or a retailer such as Amazon? Contact that provider instead.
Refunds and fees
Microsoft's page says to cancel first and then check refund eligibility under its separate refund policy page. Do not assume a refund is automatic.
